Cyclone in Burma

Tropical Cyclone Nargis pummeled Yangon for more than 10 hours from Friday night into Saturday, with 20 inches of rain and winds above 240 k/hr.

While I was playing game on my laptop on Friday night, people in Myanmmar were in frighten due to Cyclone that hitted the country. The tropical Nargis pummeled Yangon-city of Myanmmar for more than 10 hours starting Friday nigh into Saturday with 20 inchies of rain and winds above 240km/hr.
Wind speed reached 240km/hr. Do you know what that number means? It was a very energetic cyclone. Just imagine if someone hitted by a car at a speed of 100km/hr , that person will have very low chance to survive, can you imagine if a car driven in 240km/hr hit a person? Maybe no chance to survive anymore.
When the winds moved in 240km/hr, even unsharped pencil can even kill us!. So imagine how low the chance for people in Myanmmar to survive that night. But from the news I read, it was not the cyclone itself killed most of the people at the night, it was the effect brought by the cyclone killed most of the people. The tidal wave formed by the cyclone reached up to 12 feets and swept everthing away.

As you can see on the picture, Borneo Bulletin said on Monday only 350 people were killed in the accident. But today’s BB said the death toll reached 10,000 but the number keep on rising and currently the death toll already reached 15,000 and keep rising
.
(one news agency said the death toll already reached 50,000 people!)

Satellite image before and after the cyclone hitted Burma. Very destructive.
