Hmm, as per requested by my friends who also supporter to my blog, today’s blog is about the new service offers by DST which is known as GO!broadband....
Firstly, lets me introduce the history of telecommunication in small details. The first telecommunication technology that firstly invented and used was made in United State in the year 1837 by Samuel F. B. Morse. It was known as Morse telegraph
Definition of Telegraph- long distance communication through wires.
Definition of Morse – signaling of dots and dashes.
Meaning to say the first technology that lets people in 2 places to communicate was using wires which transmitted signal that have to use wire in the transmitting data proccess. The telegraph machine woud print dots and dash on the moving tape paper.(use google to find more information about it).
There after, more and more telecommunication technology invented including, UHF, VHF, GSM, GPRS and including this new technology BROADBAND.
Broadband is a service that can be used to transmit data(lots of data) in high speed without using wires. Actually broadband is a wireless service. The only different of wireless in your house/shop/office compare to broadband is that, the area covered. Broadband can transmit data in large area whereas the wireless(which familiarly known as wifi, hotspot) can transmit data in small area only.
Maybe you think Bmobile is the first service provider who offered broadband service to Brunei user, this is not true since before the launching of BMobile Broadband which is popular with the name of ZOOM!broadband, Telbru take the first action to provide this broadband service to Brunei user which known as WAVE. But their large advertisment that can be seen especially in Gadong and Kiulap area doesn’t really captured our attention. This is due to our lack knowledege of broadband. Furthermore, it is quite expensive.... If I am not mistaken , the $5.00 prepaid card will finish in just about 70mins! That is too expensive right? And the main reason why it is not so popular is due to limited area covered. The Broadbands introduce by Telbru- WAVE only available in certain area. The ‘certain area’ covered are only in busy area such as Gadong, Kiarong, Kiulap as well as Serusop. So we only can access to the broadband if we bring along our laptop to this area, remember it is not free, so we need to purchase card first before we can use this broadband service to access the internet. Why we need this WAVE broadband service if we still can go to other place such as mamih or Kern Cafe which provide totally free of charge internet access.....
Then in last March, Bmobile starts to launch their broadband service. The ZOOM! Broadband launched in the Mall, attracted a lots of people who were interested to have this broadband service. Unfortunately, this broadband service only available if you subscribe to them in the minimum time of 2 years where you need to bought the dell laptop (they said, the laptop is free, which is not). So people like me who only need the Broadband USB so that we can access the internet through broadband only wasted our time coming there.
The ZOOM!broadband introduced 2 months ago frighten espeed provider. At the same time or later after the launching of ZOOM!broadband, espeed monthly charges was revised. One espeed plan which was BND98.00 at first now reduced to BND68.00 per month. Which can be said as cheap but actually not when comparing to the ISP(internet service provider) in our neighbour country.
So people starts to make comparision either to subscribe to Zoom!Broadband or espeed. But unfortunately both service provider is not as good as their advertisment, one service charged $0.50 per MB after free usage, the other provider has a lots of complaint about their service.
For your information, Bmobile state on their advertisment that after free 2GB data(bnd45.00 plan per month), a charge of $0.50 per MB will be charge up to maximum charge of BND40 for unlimited usage (the cheapest plan for the unlimited cost BND85.00(BND45 +BND40 =BND85.00) . Customer who didn’t understand or didn’t read the T&C will be suprised to check their bill which can reach up to BND85.00 one month alone)
Then on 1st Mei 2008, DST introduced their own broadband service which is known as GO!Broadband. The thing I hate about DSTD is that, DST took very very long time to introduce new service to customer. For your information , DST already planned to have 3G service in June 2006! But they delayed it because they want to introduce 3.5G directly and planned to introduce it again in December 2006. But ir was delay again. And only May of this year (after 2 years delay from first planned date) their plan success.
But I can forgive it for their good service provider. As long as they can provide a better service, why can’t we wait....

Wah my blog already long, actually I want to write little only... hmmm
Ok I continue again to finish this special edition for Zal and Nina... jgn kmvang because Isaid your name. hehe
After few weeks advertising about their upcoming product, on 1st May 2008, DST launching their GO!Broadband and customer can starts to subscribe to their 3.5G broadband service starting 2nd Mei 2008 which was last Friday. I can’t wait to subscribe to this 3.5G and on the 1st day that customer can start to subscribe to the GO!Broadband I went to the DST-Giant Branhc because this is the only DST Branch which open until night time.... after waiting for MORE THAN 3 hours to be served, my old simcards was taken and replaced by the new simcard which can be used to connect to the 3.5G.
Yea I waited for more than 3 hours because I want to be among th first to have 3.5G DST internet service. It was very slow proccess in that DST Branch due to insufficient staff (only 2 cusotmer services can work at one time due to limited space) but the staff who were working at that night shift still can put smile on their face although they could see hundred more waiting to be served.... congrate for that.
Actually the staff there asked me to use my sim card only after 24 hours but I couldnt wait for that long. After 8 hours given a new free of charge simcard, i switched on my phone and topup through *107# . then I try to use my phone to browse the internet. WOW it’ working.... I can see 3.5G text appears on the network signal. And then I try to broadcast youtube through my phone ( http://m.youtube.com/). Wow the speed is so amazing, I can watch the video in youtube without having to wait like when using laptop using espeed. The video run smoothly. And believe it, DST still charge 5cents per MB. It is quite cheap. (Bmobile charges $0.20 per MB). That why I still prefer DST compare to BMOBILE altough sometimes I hate it too....
(actually DST also has broadband plan more or less the same as what Bmobile offered, but I cannot cover it in thiss blog.....tired.)
