Wrong Science fact that is still ‘acceptable’

Science, one of Subject that all students are required to study since Primary School until completing form 5. Teaching technique always changes in order to produce Interactive class that will be able to produce students with strong, good understanding of Science knowledge as well as to attract students to love Science subject.

I remembered some of the topics that I learned since Primary School such as electricity, types of energy, living things etc. The topic that I learned in primary school once again teaches during the Secondary school but in more details and specific. The level of learning getting harder and harder and sometimes caused us to say ‘WOW’ when the teacher told very interesting facts in that Science class. Physics, Chemistry or Biology, Everyone now knows how to differentiate them.

I still remember this one Science theory

‘All living things start from Sun’

We learned that fact since primary school.

But in actual world, that fact is no longer assumed to be correct. Sun is not the primary source of living things! Some living thing still can survive without the presence of Sun.

But students are still requiring accepting that fact or he/she scores nothing on that question.
It is unbelievable, wrong fact was taught since the first time we learned about Science at school. A school is a place that we believe a place to learn true fact not a wrong or no longer acceptable fact.



Sun is not a source of living thing

Before I watched one expedition video travelling to below of the sea, I was thinking Sun is the source of all living thing in this world. I can’t imagine what will happen to this world without Sun. I accept a theory or fact that I learned in primary and secondary school that said

” no Sun, no living thing”

After watching the video, now I know that, some living things still can survive without the presence of Sun. This reflects from the journey to under the sea video, where there are still some livings things survive and live under the Sea, a place without sunlight.

Sunlight cannot reach that deepness, then no photosynthesis process occurs on that deep, but how come there are still some Shrimps, crabs as well as fish can survive and live there in peace? From where they got their oxygen? how about their food cycle? How come they can live in a place where pressure exerts can kill us human!

This is what surprised me, that living things generate their own oxygen (if I’m not mistaken). They use bacteria that live in their body to convert some chemical compound that available in excess there into oxygen.

If we can be as intelligent as them, maybe we can start living in Mars now…. Maybe we can convert the dry land of Mars into something that can benefit us that enable us to grow our own foods there. Or maybe we can introduce some unique bacteria in Mars that will convert the dry land of Mars to become sea of water. It seems Impossible but who knows maybe one day people who said it is impossible previously have to swallow back his words….. And it is not wrong to say living without oxygen wills not only a daydream in the future.

Even in the Oceanic Volcano, there are still living things that can live in those very acidic conditions. Sulphur produce by the eruption of volcano which smells like rotting eggs are so poisonous but it is unimaginable that there are still animals live in this type of condition.
