What a weird fish!

Have you ever seen this fish?

How long do you think the longest fish can reach up to? 5m? 10m? no, actually it can reach up to 17m, longer than the long of single Badminton court.... and its weight can reach up to 275kg
Oarfish is believe to be the longest fish that still exist today.... is found in all world’s ocean of depth between 20m to 1000m (1km in depth).

The first time i saw the photo of this fish was (if I’m not mistaken), 10 years ago where it was stated that, the fish was weird due to its size and believe the only one that still exist.
This is the picture that I saw 10 years ago.

But I was surprised to find out, this fish still exist today especially in Mexican ocean and Australian ocean. Few of the death body of this fish found washed up on beach.
The fish rarely seen on the surface of water unless the fish is sick or dying and always said to be sea serpent when seen. Oar fish is not dangerous to human and its fillet is not healthy to be consume.

However few years ago one woman accidently catched this fish while fishing for Cod fish and she cut the fish into pieces and put it in her freezer. It was weird the fish interested to the woman bait which was squid. Scientist feel frust on the woman action since the Oarfish she catched could be a good sample(due to its freshness) to understand further the behaviour of this Oarfish as well as the physical of this rare fish.

and another case was, the Oarfish was killed as it was thinked to attack the visitor in one shallow island. Read more about it at http://lencole.home.sprynet.com/oarfish.htm )

The behaviour of Oarfish is so weird, which finally caused them to be killed or dead by their own action.

Special about this fish
  • Its size(can reach up to 17m)
  • Moves vertically in the water (common fish move horizontally)
  • When feed on plankton, its body is in vertical position.
  • This fish has no teeth! And feed on plankton exclusively.
  • Has bright red ribbon on his head.

Here are some photos scene about Oar fish, the action of this Oarfish finally brought her life to the end.
